The year 1995.

I saw a documentary on Canteen a couple of years ago. I picked up the telephone to make a donation.

The number was engaged that night whenever I tried it and much to my ongoing personal disgust with myself, I did not ring back the next day.

[Tony]: "Hi Keir, I've got another crazy idea. Do you want to hear about it?"
[Keir]: "Of course."
[Tony]: "123457/=-123Blah 4\=[]Blah //?:#Blah $@!%$ Blah"
[Keir]: "Count me in"

In 1995 Tony Mowbray was looking for another challenge!

Having competed in 13 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Races, including the 50th anniversary of the great race in December 1994 and with friend Morrie Morgan becoming the first to sail two handed, non stop around Australia in early 1994 his adventurous appetite needed to be sated, yet again.

Lake Macquarie is Tony Mowbray's backyard. The largest salt water lake in the southern hemisphere is approximately 160 kilometres around it's perimeter, as it meanders and wanders. However in a North - South direction it is approximately 26 kilometres long and close to 6 kilometres across it's breadth.

THE CHALLENGE: Set a course on the lake and sail continuously around that track for 7 day's and nights and at the same time raise as much money for, and awareness of, The Hunter Branch of Canteen. (The Teenage Cancer Patients Society)

Tony enlisted the involvement of his good friends, Vince Bezzina and Keir Enderby and together they set about planning their little adventure that would incorporate the use of Vince's boat Struth for the project.

Tony's presentation demonstrates to the audience the tangible benefits that can be had by:-

Keir & Vince
Maybe 7 days was too long?

Listen, while Tony recounts the 70 knot wind change that very nearly blew them out of the water and hear about the $30,000 raised over the course of the week and of course, don't forget about the smiles on the children's faces.

A "straight from the heart" presentation.
