Tony and Morrie heard the deafening roar before they saw the wave towering above the boat's Port side. It obliterated the sky and dumped it's icy contents with a thunderous crash across the decks.

"The boat rolled on to it's side" explained Morrie, "I saw the mast and sail disappear below the surface and we began a long, slow, sideways underwater ride down and into the trough.

The SOUTHERN OCEAN! What power!!

In March 1994 Tony Mowbray and his good mate Morrie Morgan set off from Newcastle Harbour to attempt the First two-handed, Non-Stop Circumnavigation of Australia.

Eleven short months before, Tony had arrived home, after having been away sailing for a month, and announced his plans to his 5 month pregnant wife, Lorraine(call her Lucky because she's got Tony).

To say that Lorraine was not amused would be an understatement!

No Money, (ever) !!
No Boat !!
A 15 month old daughter !!
A 5 month pregnant wife !!

For eleven months Tony worked at fever pitch to ensure a March 1994 departure so that they would hopefully return before the numbing cold of the Southern Ocean Winter.

Hear about the breakneck ride up the East Coast of Australia, threading their way through The Great Barrier Reef and the stifling heat and humidity of the Tropics.

Cyclone "Vivienne" gave Tony and Morrie plenty to worry about as did the 7 day period in the Southern Ocean where they were hit time and time again by vicious weather systems.

Whilst all this was going on Tony managed to raise $30,000 for Hunter Life Education.

The work of Life Education focuses on alcohol and drug (illicit and otherwise) education of our school age children and if Tony's contribution help's just one child to lead a drug free life then it was worth the effort.

The Hunter Life Ausail '94 presentation is packed full of extraordinary examples of commitment, planning and dedication to achieving of goals once they are established.

Hear how they achieved their goal by sailing into Newcastle Harbour on 13th May 1994, having been at sea continuosly for 53 days, 4 hours, 46 minutes and 17 seconds.
