Update #48 - 3rd December 2000 (7.00pm AEDST)
Position - 55°46' S, 70°27' W

Barometer - 1000 mb and steady
Air temperature - 5 degrees
Only 107 miles to Cape Horn

As I've said before, this is a place of extremes. Anything can happen between now and my appointment with my mistress, but ETA is somewhere between 1.00am and 6.00am Monday morning AEDST. I currently have 35 knots from the WNW and it's raining with visibility down to one mile. I've just crossed from deep water into the shallow band around the land mass. It went from 2000 metres to 46 metres of depth ..... some ride! I've picked up a couple of knots of current and with only the back end of the #4 out and the main down, we are doing 8.5 knots at the mark! Nearest land is "Islas Ildefonso" which is 36 miles away and just about on my track, so I will have to be wary.

Take care,

Tony Mowbray
